Short and Long Term Goals

I recently attended a lecture by Bob Thorton, an executive of Waffle House. Waffle House is a fast food chain that I go to often at late hours of the night, usually after a fun night out (it’s delicious at 4 in the morning). Thorton spoke of setting up short and long term goals, and I liked his process on this idea. So, when I arrived home, I began constructing a one, five, ten and a 20-year list of goals I had for my future. I enjoyed writing my one-year goals especially the one about reading books.

Books are a great way to pass the time. I love reading at night or in the morning, listening to an audio recording in the car or just taking a break from studying to read a little. So, why not create a set goal of books to read by the end of this year? I wrote down that I would read 20 books by the end of the year, and I am well on my way having read 11 thus far. I also set my 5-year goal to 100 books and my 20-year goal to 400. I grinned when I wrote that down, happy at the fact that I have a life-long journey of reading and discovering to accomplish. I closed my journal and lay in bed, pulling out book #12.
